It feels like it has only a been a minute since David Guetta last released a brand new track. But: what a long minute that was.

After successfully releasing his latest studio record “7”, which included massive hits such as “Flames” (featuring Sia) and the current smash “Say My Name” (featuring Bebe Rexha and J Balvin), the French DJ is apparently ready to continue his journey.

He is joined by long-time collaborator Brooks (“Like I Do”) and the New Yorker singer-songwriting duo Loote. The latter are known for their songwriting on tracks such as “Ruin My Life” and “No Promises”, as well as their own proper pop gems “Your Side of The Bed” and “Wish I Never Met You”.

Their first collaboration together is titled “Better When You Are Gone”. Quite honestly, we do not want to imagine how terrible life would be if this track were to be gone. “Better When You Are Gone” is a banger and a half. Slowly working itself to the top and featuring shimmering guitars and hand claps for its build-up, the track is then being plunged straight into club heaven by providing us with an enormous beat drop. The clear vocals provided by Loote front woman Emma Lov ad even more intensity to the build-up. The new release is a perfect merge of each artists’ strengths.

CelebMix had the honor to chat exclusively to Guetta’s collaborator Brooks about the process behind “Better When You Are Gone” and how it is to work with the acclaimed DJ. Read more about it down below:

How did the collaboration itself come together (how did you meet/who
approached who)?
We already knew each other because of our track ‘Like I Do’ with Martin Garrix. Both me and David were super happy with the result of that track so we decided to hit the studio again! I had a couple of shows in Ibiza with him and he has a studio there, so we pretty much played our shows and then went back to the studio! After a couple of days, we had the first idea ready and David remembered he had some cool vocals of Loote, which happened to fit perfectly!

What was the process behind the creation of the track? What came first: the lyrics or the melody?
The melody came first! We had so many melodies but none of them felt like they were ‘the one’, then all of a sudden we made the melody that’s in the track now and we both immediately knew this was it! It was the perfect fit with Loote’s vocals!

What was the inspiration for the track?
I think it was a combination of the amazing vibes at Ibiza whilst we were doing our shows together, the after parties there and an amazing studio right at our doorstep. Pretty sure that if I had been there for a couple more weeks we could’ve released an album [laughs]

How is it working with David Guetta?

Amazing! Of course David is one of the biggest in the scene, with an insane amount of hit records under his name so at first I was kind of nervous. I didn’t really know what to expect or how to act but after a couple minutes I knew this was going to work out just fine. He has such a nice vibe around him and was so nice to me right from the start. I think this really helped the studio vibes as well so this made me respect him even more.

If you had to describe the song with up to three words, they would be…?
Better When Gone! Nah just kidding, I think the best words would be; festival, energy, happiness!

The new release was first teased as a part of Guetta’s DJ-ing set during Ultra Korea and Tomorrowland. Other tracks debuted were a still-unreleased track with Showtek and a collaboration with Cesqeaux.

This new single kicks off a -what we can only suspect to be a- huge year for David Guetta, with his upcoming residency in Las Vegas starting in April, plus his headlining Ultra Music Festival in Miami during the summer.
