Emerging UK producer Draper is back with his latest banger ‘On and Off’ which features July Jones and is a powerful and uplifting song that demonstrates the rising star’s artful production with tropical pop lyricism. The new single comes after the release of his second EP ‘Socha’ which dropped back in January.

Since his debut Draper has become one of the most in-demand production and writing talents and has worked with superstars such as Bring Me the Horizon and Rita Ora, and has gone on to embark on projects with the likes of Itch, Twin Atlantic and in particular Låpsley – writing and producing her cult hit single “Falling Short”.

Here we speak exclusively to Draper to discuss his musical inspiration, new single, touring and more:

Growing up who inspired your love of music?

My intrigue of how music was made is what motivated me to learn but the love of music came from my family, my mum would listen to Steely Dan, my dad on the rock classics and my sister let me borrow her Blink 182 CD once!

Who are your all time musical heroes?

John Lennon and Chris Martin. Two of the most poetic songwriters ever in my opinion and my all time favourite songs are by these two. Their effortless ability to write songs that connect is inspiring.

When did you decide to pursue music as your career?

I was making music at university and when I started to gain traction online I thought I’d see how far I could take it. I had a year after uni where a couple things happened that made me think I could do it, then at the end of the year I was picked up for publishing and thus started my career. I’m still seeing how far I can take it before I run out of money!

Your new release is out now, what inspired the track?

I wanted to write something fun on the piano as I’m not a very good pianist and I came up with the riff for on and off then wrote with July Jones and Kelly Rutledge and her powerful vocal meant that I really had to have it explode on the chorus so I spent a couple of days figuring it out and was super pleased with the end result.

It follows the release of your second EP, back in January how happy were you with response to the record?

I loved that record and the response was awesome, it was somewhat of a departure from my previous material so I was worried it might be rejected but at the end of the day music is subjective and the people that liked it really liked it!

Can fans expect a full length album from you soon?

I’m still expecting a full length album from myself

How would you describe your sound to new listeners?

Electric fun party

Do you have any touring plans lined up?

I’m playing at Reading and Leeds in August and then I’ve got a co-headline tour in September (tickets) which is going to be an absolute blast!

What are your long term career goals?

To have a long term career.
