Dobrev tells Well + Good that whenever she's sick, she likes to make juices at home. She says that she likes to put a lot of different fruits, veggies, and vitamins in her recipes, no matter if she enjoys the taste or not. "When I'm sick or not feeling great, I'm all about the juices," says Dobrev. "It seems like the worse the taste, the better it is for you, so I do ginger, garlic, cayenne pepper, oregano oil—ugh, double ugh— lemon, everything."

For Dobrev, getting eight hours of sleep each night is a priority. "No product is going to replace sleep—if you don't rest, those dark circles are not going to go away," she says to Well + Good. Dobrev also says that she likes to use products that help her sleep soundly.  "I use a sound machine app on my phone called White Noise. I sleep so much better with it, especially when I travel."

While Dobrev is an actress, she's a professional athlete when it comes to working out. Dobrev's trainer, Emily Samuel, gives her extremely intense workouts to do, and treats her like a professional football or baseball player. "What I really like about Nina is that she is super badass and she loves athletic training," Samuel tells SELF. "I give her very athletic workouts that I would give an actual [pro] athlete."

Dobrev likes to do exercises with her trainers that work multiple parts of her body. Celebrity trainer, Harley Pasternak, posted this video on Instagram of Dobrev doing glute raises with tricep lifts. "I love that it's incredibly efficient," Pasternak tells SELF of this exercise. "It targets two very important posterior chain muscles, the butt and triceps, and requires very little equipment, and because you're lying on your back, your heart rate really never gets too high."

Dobrev is extremely hardworking, and she says that she learned this from her family. She is the daughter of immigrants, who moved to Canada when she was a young age. She tells SELF that she grew up watching her parents work hard at their jobs, and that this influenced her greatly. "My mom crossed into Canada to meet him at Niagara Falls with one suitcase and a kid in each hand," Dobrev says. "I learned hard work from them."
