Olivia Culpo opened up about her endometriosis struggle via a new post on her Instagram account! She also explained that she would continue to try and bring more awareness to it since so many women out there are dealing with it as well.
The model told her followers that she had undergone surgery for her endometriosis the day prior after so many years of suffering.

That being said, she posted several pics of herself in the hospital and in recovery and in the caption, she shared a lengthy message in which she explained that the not so ‘glamorous’ experience needs to be shared in order to bring more awareness to the chronic pain.
She went on to explain what it is, saying that it’s a ‘condition where tissue from the uterine lining grows in other random parts of your body, causing pain. This can interfere with one’s fertility and overall health and honestly – happiness. It’s excruciatingly painful but almost impossible to see through an ultrasound (unless you have endometrioma cysts on your ovaries- that is what I had). I’ve been in agony for years around my period and was misdiagnosed countless times by doctors.’
Culpo mentioned that, in the past, medical specialists misdiagnosed her in different ways, telling her followers that ‘I know a lot of people in the Endo community are familiar with such diagnoses which is why I’m so passionate about this,’ before thanking Dr. Smitha Vilasagar, MD, FACOG, and the medical staff at Atrium Health, who took care of her during the surgery and while recovering.

Finally, her message addressed others who struggle with the illness as well, telling them that ‘I understand the depression, and loneliness that can occur with a condition that’s so painful yet so hard to be interpreted by other people. It’s hard when chronic pain isn’t validated and you do not get an answer or understanding. To my Endo warriors, I’ll continue to spread more awareness around endometriosis so your symptoms can be validated. You are not alone and you’re so strong!!!!’
